  • PILOT BOARDING THE SHIP DURING BALLAST AND LOADED CONDITIONS
  • February 11, 2020

Name: Mr P Jyothi Bose

Accidents do take place when the pilot transfers himself from the pilot ladder to the gangway and vice versa. It is preferable to have lengthier steps in between at regular intervals. Also it is required now to have life line and life buoy as standby and a responsible officer should attend the embarkation and disembarkation of pilot.

Steering gear problem:
oil temperature going high may be due to cooler problem or leakage of certain seals. Sometimes in ships like dredger where the steering is used extensively, changing the seals immediately may pose problems, as the time may not be available. During such occasions use of gunny bags and cooling water may help just to tie up the situation.
