MILD POLLUTION DURING DEBALLASTING OPERATION

Capt. Anilkumar , Master

While deballasting in an South American port, a minor oil pollution was observed. The deballasting was stopped and on investigation, it was found that the ODME line valve connecting ballast line and cargo line was not shut. The defect rectified and the deballasting was done. Since the pollution was very minor, the port authorities excused the ship and instructions were left to check all the valves while deballasting or ballasting operations.
