RUDDER SERVERELY BENT AT GROUNDING

16th Aug. 04

I served as a Second Engineer on a vessel where we ran aground while transiting the Suez Canal.

The vessel had grounded in loaded condition and sat on her stern. On inspection the rudder was found to have bent severely. The vessel was towed to the nearest dry dock.

A new Rudder along with its stock had to be fabricated and the whole thing fitted back.
