POOR CONTROL OF LOAD

10th May 04

When we were landing an LO pump motor astern, the single derrick was used to shift it from the main engine deck to the poop deck.

The motor came out from the E/R through the skylight and was hanging from the boom.

It was at this time not appreciated that controlling the swing of the suspended load would be easier if the load was put on the deck prior slewing the derrick. While turning the boom the load started to swing wildly and the motor fell out of the sling on to the pop deck.

Fortunately no one was injured. But the motor was badly damaged.
