The ship was carrying soyabeans and sunflower seeds as cargo. The hold bilges were being pumped out at sea. The main sea suction valve was open from the port side and the overboard discharge for hold bilges were on the port side.

These seeds and soyabeans escaping through overboard valves were sucked by main sea water pump and this pump was feeding SW to Auxiliary engine LO coolers. There was no filter in the hold bilges line as well as in the auxiliary engine SW line. This choked all the 3 engines’ LO coolers leading to black out.

All the LO coolers were cleaned one by one, and the Main Engine was started after 6 hrs.It was suggested to the company to provide filters on the Auxiliary Engine SW line as well as on the hold bilges line, which were done during the lay up period by the owners.
