During the voyage from Korea to USA, on a fine day, it was found that the exhaust gas started leaking from Main Engine unit 1 cylinder head. The engine was stopped and the cylinder head was replaced with spare o’hauled one and the voyage continued.
On investigation, it was found that the leaky cylinder head was a reconditioned one, done by a workshop in China, during drydock.
An alert was sent to the other vessels in the company and a close watch was kept on the repaired items by the above workshop in other ships also. Eventually after observing the remarks from other ships, the company decided to discontinue giving jobs to that particular workshop.
