World's Largest Class DNV-GL awards "GRADE A1 - OUTSTANDING" for all Presea Courses and Post Sea Competency Courses
We are glad to inform that by God's grace and your best wishes we have once again become the First Institute of India to successfully complete the Comprehensive Inspection Program (CIP) for all our POST SEA Competency courses basis on the DGS Order 23 of 2014 dated 27th Dec 14 by World's Largest Class, DNV-GL and awards Grade A1- OUTSTANDING. The grading has been awards considering the various parameters which includes Infrastructure setup and Maintenance, Faculty & HRD, Student performance and sustainability of Institute, overall performance and Management.
Last year Jan-Feb 2014, both Class NK and DNV-GL had completed their 1st CIP inspection at HIMT College for all the Presea courses and awards OUTSTANDING- Grade A1. HIMT has now become the first and the only Institute to have received Grade A1- OUTSTANDING for all the Presea and Post sea competency courses. Noting the fact that a large number of Indian Seafarers are gainfully employed on foreign flag ships
and this number is likely to increase further in light of the various facilitation processes initiated by the
Directorate and since MLC 2006 has already come into force internationally , a need has been felt
to increase the number of Medical Examiners in the panel of the approved list in a proactive and pragmatic manner.
To increase the number of Medical Examiners and to bring about uniformity in the conduct of medical
examination of Seafarers by the approved Medical Examiners and to ensure that all approved
Medical Examiners have domain awareness about merchant ships and about the living and working
conditions of seafarers, the Directorate has introduced a Familiarisation Course for Medical Examiner of Seafarers.
This course comprises a training programme regarding seafarers living and working conditions on board
Merchant Ships including types of merchant ships, varying environments in which ships operate and their associated hazards, typical injuries and diseases affecting seafarers, applicable National and International Medical regulations and responding to shipboard medical emergencies. This knowledge is obtained by undergoing the one day DGS approved Familiarisation Course for Medical Examiner of Seafarers

Familiarisation Course for Medical Examiner of Seafarers:All Medical Practitioners having minimum qualification of Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery degree (MBBS) or equivalent are eligible to be enrolled as an approved Medical Examiner of Seafarers at any port or place. The Medical Practitioner should have valid registration with the applicable Medical Council and with age not exceeding 65 years.
Refresher Course for Medical Examiner of Seafarers : This course is open to Registered Medical Practitioners having minimum qualification of MBBS or, equivalent, seeking approval as Medical Examiner of Seafarers and existing approved Medical Examiners.

DGS approved "Extra First Class Engineer" course in correspondence mode conducting from Jan 2015. India’s 1st Institute to start this course
We are glad to inform you that by God’s grace and your good wishes HIMT has once again the honour of becoming the 1st institute of India to receive DGS approval for "EXTRA FIRST CLASS ENGINEER CERTIFICATION" Course vide DGS Approval dated 4th December 2014 complying to DGS Instructions to Examiners Circular No 125.
To keep pace with the evolving technological, managerial and regulatory requirements of the industry, new course curriculum for the Extra First Class Engineer has been formulated by a committee of experts. Accordingly, " Extra First Class Engineer " Certificate of Competency is extended to a candidates aspiring for higher professional assignments in maritime field. Course shall be conducted in CORRESPONDENCE MODE and assessment of the subject will be based on combination mode of assignment and examination. Assignments are so designated that the analytic ability of the candidate is explored and evaluated, and the assignments in each subject will help in assessing the knowledge, comprehension, application and analytical capabilities of the candidates for different modules. Additionally, there is a provision of conducting contact classes at periodical intervals ,but the same is not made mandatory for the candidates by the Directorate.
Please find appended herewith the Course Curriculum which covers 12 subjects divided equally in Part A and Part B:
Candidate can select any five subject out of the six from each Part and therefore shall satisfactorily complete the course and assessment of a total of ten subjects to consider for the award of the Extra First Class COC.

A3 Shipping, Economics & Finance
A4 Marine Materials & Corrosion of Marine Structures
A5 Advanced Electrical, Electronic and Control Engineering Knowledge

Duration of the course is 1 year ( 2 semesters)and should be completed not exceeding maximum 5 years from the date of first enrollment for the course failing which, candidate needs to undergo the complete course and examination all over again. Successful completion period of the course of The Examination for all subjects will be conducted by the Directorate General of Shipping, twice in a year during June / December every year for the applications enrolled prior 31st May and 30th November respectively.

August 28, 2013 will always be remembered as a red-letter day in the history of HIMT. This day gave birth to a concept, an idea, a vision, a dream being fulfilled in the form of “TECHNOVATION 2k13”…..the first ever Technical Symposium of HIMT.
The main purpose of starting such a symposium was to give a platform to the students to portray and nurture their ideas in the most competitive way. The main aim was providing the students with a necessary technical background and keep them up-to-date with the latest innovations and trends in the maritime industry.
Thus forming the theme of our symposium TECHNOVATION– Leading Technology towards the Revolution….
Three eminent personalities of the maritime industry were invited to inaugurate and judge the event. The Chief Guest was Shri. J.K.M. Nair, CEO of Training Solutions International and Mr. N.Rajan, GM of Technical services Wartsila and Mr. Ranjit Narayan, GM of Anglo Eastern Ship Management were the two Guests of Honor.
The event started with the poster unveiling of TECHNOCATION .This was followed by a series of 8 technical paper presentations by the students of HIMT. The following papers were mainly based on the theme – Latest Innovations and Trends in Marine Industry.

The best three papers out of the lot were rewarded by the judges. The First prize was won by team 4 comprising of Mr. Ankit Panchal andMr. Mehfuz Ansari, the second prize was won by team 5 comprising of Mr. Achuth nair and Mr. Aditya khanna and the third prize was won by two teams due to tie team 6 comprising of Mr. Abhijith Mohan and team 7 comprising of Mr. Abhilash jha and Mr. Jayachandran .G .
The technical session was very informative and interactive for all present. The Judges were pleased with the level of technical papers presented and appreciated all participants and special appreciation went to our GP cadets by praising them as GP stands for Great People.

Individuals, organizations and companies from across the region’s shipping industry have been honoured in the annual Seatrade Middle East & Indian Subcontinent Awards (SMEISA).Known as the ‘Oscars’ of the maritime world, the awards were presented at a glittering gala dinner on 25th October’10 at the Atlantis The Palm Dubai attended by 750 of the who’s who of the region’s maritime and shipping industry.“These awards celebrate and award excellence and innovation in the maritime sector across the region and are much anticipated throughout the industry,” said Chris Hayman, Chairman of Seatrade, the award organisers. The awards, which reward excellence across sectors that include ship repair, environment, education, ports, classification and legal were judged by a panel of esteemed judges from various countries and the Chairman of the judging panel was Radm. Efthimios Mitropoulos, Secretary General of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) who was also Guest of Honour for the evening.
The panel of judges has unanimously selected HINDUSTAN INSTITUTE OF MARITIME TRAINING (HIMT) as the leader in the category of Education and Training. The prestigious SEATRADE MIDDLE EAST AND INDIAN SUBCONTINENT AWARD & WINNER CERTIFICATE was presented by H.E.Dr. Naseer Saif Al- Mansoori, Director General. National Transport Authority, UAE and Rear Admirial Efthimios Mitropoulos, Secretary General, International Maritime Organization ( IMO). The award was humbly received by the Managing Director of HIMT, Mr.Sanjeev S. Vakil who dedicated the award to the selfless teamwork and dedication of all those who made it possible. The fact that HIMT is the recipient of various International and National awards year after year, it is evident that HIMT places a very high emphasis on the quality of training imparted.
