COMPETENCY COURSES
PREPARATORY COURSE FOR MEO CLASS IV COC FOR MARINE ENGINEERS
Ä Engineer Officer with MEO CL-IV Part A followed by 6 months sea service with TAR Book
Ä
Engineer Officer with MEO CL-IV of STCW 78 Conventions.
PREPARATORY COURSE FOR MEO CLASS II COC FOR MARINE ENGINEERS
Ä Engineer Officer with MEO CL-II part A/ CL- IV Part B followed by 12 months sea service.
PREPARATORY CLASS IV (NCV)
Ä Engine Room Rating with secondary school leaving certificate (10th Standard) with mathematics and science having completed basic pre - sea course and two years sea service on sea - going vessels as watch keeper; or
Ä Sea going engine driver / Naval rating as Mech. III or ERAIII, or
Ä IInd class engine driver under I.V Act / Harbour Craft Rules with one year's sea service on sea going vessels; or
Ä ITI trade suitable for marine engineering training with two years' sea service on sea going vessels; or
Ä Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with one year's sea service on sea going vessels or
Ä
Marine fitter from approved workshop or naval dockyard with two years sea service in sea going vessels.

SECOND MATE (F.G) FOUNDATION COURSE
Ä
Deck Cadet with basic educational qualification of 10+2(PCM) but with aggregate PCM Mark less than 60% and who do not meet the basic entry standards shall be required to undergo an approved sea going service of 36 months including 6 months of supervised Bridge Watch-Keeping and thereafter they shall be eligible for the course of NWKO (NCV) . After successful completion of NWKO (NCV) course (i.e. written assessment only ), such candidate are eligible for 2nd Mate (F.G) Function course provided they have passed foundation course,

Followed by Examination for 2nd Mate (F.G.) Certification.
Ä
Pre-sea training as deck cadet or 6 months sea service in a trading vessel as a cadet or a rating or meeting the criteria specified in MS (STCW) Rules 1998 and META Manual Volume I.

6/6 eye sight and no colour blindness
Ä
Meeting the physical standard as per MS (Medical Examination) Rules 1986
SECOND MATE FUNCTION COURSE

As per the eligibility criteria specified in Rule 13(2)(i) (ii) and (iii) of MS (STCW) Rules 1998 and section M-II/1 para 2.2 of META Manual Vol.1 as mended
CHIEF MATE PHASE I
Ä
Candidate must have at least nine months of approved sea service after obtaining a Second Mate (F.G) certificate of competency (Officer in charge of a navigational watch on ships of 500 gross tonnage or more)
Ä
90% attendance is compulsory for this course. However, if a candidate's performance in the internal assessment test is good. 75% attendance would be acceptable subject to concurrence of the head of the institution.
CHIEF MATE PHASE II
Ä
Candidate must have at least eighteen months of approved sea service after obtaining a Second Mate (F.G) certificate of competency (Officer in charge of a navigational watch on ships of 500 gross tonnage or more)
Ä
Satisfactory attendance and performance in Internal assessment test of Phase I. A pass in the MMD examination in Phase I is not necessary for a candidate to attend Phase II of the course
Ä
90% attendance is compulsory for this course. However, if a candidate's performance in the internal assessment test is good. 75% attendance would be acceptable subject to concurrence of the head of the institution.
MASTER'S PHASE III COURSE (ASM)
Ä
Medically fit, particularly regarding eye sight and hearing, Medical Certificate ILO format to be submitted

Holding First Mate of (F.G.) certificate under STCW 1995 or passed Phase I/II written/ oral examination of first mate.
Ä
Having at least 36 months of sea service after obtaining 2nd Mate (F.G) certificate of 30 months or pro-rata if candidate has served 12 months or less as chief Mate]

90% attendance is compulsory for this course
